DESCRIPTION/BACKGROUND

Based on feedback previously received from the City Council about the focus of City communications, I want to obtain input from the Council about the Communications Manager position that will soon be vacant. Plans are to fill the position as soon as possible so, it is important to receive input before the search process begins. It should be noted that the position title will be changed from Communications Manager to Communications Coordinator.

The Communications Coordinator is a key position in the City, and is tasked with leading both outreach to the community and internal communication initiatives. In 2018, the top priorities will be to coordinate:

  • Reconfiguration of City website, and regular review and production of content Citywide social media activity
  • Community outreach for City projects/issues
  • Content for weekly City Manager’s report
  • Citywide volunteer program
  • Planning for City events and public involvement activities

In addition, the position will be expected to assess opportunities for City participation in community events, and act as Public Information Officer (PIO), working with the Police Department’s PIO as needed.  The Coordinator will also develop a citywide communications plan, to be used as a reference for City departments and other stakeholders.
