On May 9, 2017, the City Council adopted Ordinance No. 2017-13, establishing a Climate Change Advisory Committee for the City consisting of seven members.
Over the course of the next month, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor solicited and interviewed candidates to serve on the committee.
On June 20, 2017, the Mayor nominated nine candidates to be appointed to the committee. At the same meeting, the City Council approved a motion to expand the number of members serving on the committee from seven to nine, confirmed the appointment of the nine members nominated by the Mayor, and authorized the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor to determine the positions and initial terms of the members of the committee.
If enacted, Ordinance 2018-06, would formally increase the size of the committee from seven to nine members. The June 20, 2017 motion did not accomplish this goal because an ordinance is required to amend an ordinance.
